September 2019 - Oops I did it again

Let's play a bit of catch up, I always wanted this blog to be about helping other people with less time than I have. People who have similar ailments, but limited resources. I have time, I listen to every health podcast (and true crime). I read every article, I am a complete information junk. I spend my free time figuring out what works, on my own and with professionals, I read self help books.

But I am just me, I am not a professional, I don't have a wall of certifications, so this blog turns into more of a journal entry that you might pull wisdom from.

Let's get all caught up;

The Weight Loss scam grant; I completed a full year with the program which doesn't tell you anything. In that year I paid $3000 and I spoke with a dietitian 3 times, a counselor once and a fitness girl 5 times. The company I started with went bankrupt, the company that took over my contract wasn't registered with the program and would require my final weigh in to be at another clinic. I had 9 months to lose 45 pounds, basically unassisted or I lost the grant. No big surprise here but the only thing I lost was the grant money. The program was half-assed and I regret getting sucked into the scam. I now have more to lose than when I started.

BEFORE and AFTER
Good Old Frank (my goiter); he's not with me today, but that can change by tomorrow. I had a endoscope to check out my throat and all the bits in-between. Aside from waking up in the middle of it with only a faint memory of being tackled it went well, nothing out of the ordinary.

My Thyroid; it's still there. I am taking the Naturally Desiccated Thyroid (NDT) with an increased dosage of 125. I wanted to switch for some relief of symptoms, but I don't have that kind of luck. I still battle the same demons, but now getting my medication is an extended trip and a headache. I am currently debated the return to Synthroid, it's cheaper and easier. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto, which is great news, because with the right diet I could fix it. My antibodies are still around 280 (instead of the recommended 36), my body is attacking my thyroid like its the enemy.

Your Thyroid - My Thyroid
Fitness; this is my favourite part of any plan, but has been lacking. I was told my genetics didn't like cardio based workouts. I was best designed for burst exercises, but those aren't fun. I followed the assigned workout plan for 6 months and didn't gain anything (or lose). I quit that. I bought the habitnest journal for fitness, thinking I love journaling and its all right there, but it didn't stick. I walk a lot, I bought a bike and I told myself if I ate well I didn't need to workout. THAT IS NOT TRUE. Weight loss aside, I need the daily burst to keep me sane. Richard and pinpoint the days when I didn't get our there.

Supplements; I have tried it all and am convinced true success comes from whole foods not pills.

This feels like a long post... and also a great end of all the things I've tried. My next post will be what's to come, a positive look at the newest program or lifestyle choice based on my symptoms.

Your's in Health-ish,

Melanie

It's not another day one -- it's just getting back on track.

 At least that is what I am telling myself.  I've been sad and that is heavy. It's hard to carry around sadness and still perform at peak level. I had to use all my energy to exist for my kids. I am not depressed, but this sadness was big. A recent dianosis, left us having to rehome our cats, which seems trivial in the grand scheme of things, but they were my 'we're-not-having-anymore-more-kids' cats and I loved them with all I had. That plus they're the only pets my kids have ever known and they are hella attached. So we had to grieve the loss, while handling the news of my littiest guy having severe Asthma that is impacting his lung development.  That paired with my horomal cycle at the time of the news, left me struggling to get through each day, feeling the weight of it all. And all of my self-awareness couldn't stop me from falling on my good old coping  mechanisms, even while it was happening the quiet, healed, wise little voice in the back of my mind

Manic Monday!

 In a stark contrast to the previous post -- I am on an upswing. I caught it early, but not before I signed up a foam run, booked a cottage with friends, reached out to a personal trainer about an individual program, I bought probiotics, meal prepped for hours and at 10am have already consumed 59grams of protein. It's fun being this version of myself. She is smart, powerful, optimistic and kind. She is also up for anything and doesn't care about the expense -- nothing is as valuable as the experience. The only fear is the come down, when it happens I don't always have a say. It makes it very hard to keep up with all of Manic Melanie's ambitions, but when I feel like this the low doesn't seem so bad.  Wish me luck as I embark on the summer of me! Events, concerts, construction, cottages and endless fun. Woot! Melanie

2024!

 Happy 2024! It is not January, and this is not a post about resolutions (been there, done that).  I am using the last few days of March to fine tune who I am going to be this year, with the real 'fresh start' to happen on April 8th. The beginning of my new year.  I have always made plans to lose weight, for as long as I can remember, I wanted to lose weight. I wanted to be smaller. I wanted to be little, lighter and blend in with all the other pretty girls.  Last year I changed my plan (at least I pretended too) I wanted to create consistency and redefine my body, but ultimately I wanted to get smaller and lighter to be able to live the life I want. The life I pictured was always in a smaller body -- a body that 'fit' in the standardized seat of society without any over hang.  Mid year, I entered an F45 challenge and changed my prespective. I didn't care about the weight, but I wanted the functionality that I believed only existed in a smaller pant size. I accepte
